What are the foundations of a good, eye-catching logo?

Well I would have to say that it has to look great on your site, it has to match your site and it has to relate to what your site is about.

Almost the same as waht ebittner said. It has to be unique. Those logos with glassy effects look good

The glass effect is nice, but it isn't exactly unique anymore. That effect has been used millions of times.

I see mainly vector logos these days. Is it best to go with a vector logo, or a logo with a stock/real images?
