Default Search Engines: Getting listed

How do you go about getting your sites listed at search engines?
For me I have never done anything. Some day I just noticed that bots were on my site and then I was on the lists. What do you do to get listed?

There are 2 ways that your site can get listed in a search engine.

1 You submit your self the site to the engine

2 The bots follow a like from a site already listed to your site.

I personally find bots much easier to take advantage of; just post links in your signature on big sites/forums and bots will visit your site quickly.

These "bots" are called spiders and they follow links around the web untill it gets to your site. Then it lists you on the search engine according to your meta tags.

I fill my meta tags with over 200 words! I submit my domain name to as many search engines possible and compare my site's keyword density, meta tags with my other competing sites and perform some action accordingly

I optimised my pages a little, submitted to google / msn / yahoo, built backlinks, and left it at that.

I don't worry too much about the listings, just build links and content, and it seems to work.

I do nothing else than placing my site link on my signature in various forums and as you all said, the spiders get my site very quickly to list it in the search engines.
