Shuttle Mini computers

I really like the look and specs of the Shuttle mini computers.
Basically they are a small square box with minimal parts.

Im still up and down on whether this would work well for a server.

Has anyone used one?

I've been thinking about building my own BATX / mimi-ATX computer for some time now. With such a little box running high-end compenents and not so good air flow like a full-sized ATX case, my concern as you can tell here would be heat.

As for using one as a server, sure anything would work as long as its stable.

I own one of the Shuttle miniPC and I really like it. It's kind of a cool box bigger than a toaster and it sits in my kitchen. Really handy in there and it looks good. I don't think I'd use it as a server though because it does get a little warm. The interior is very tight... I did have it running Windows Media Centre for a while and it looked good next to the TV, but I'm going to switch to a media centre form factor for than now. I think for a server a mid-size tower is a good start.

I've built a couple of shuttles they are great space savers, however you cannot put anything too powerfull in them due to majorly restricted airflow. I do not advise on using it as a server because servers are always on and need plenty of cool air, these are good for media centers or people who want a small pc but dont want a laptop.

For a server? a nono from me, the heat could slow it down you would desperately need something to cool it down quicker, it definately seems ablewise to take on being a server, but you need to think of the problems that can easily occur when doing so, so in my case i would say no because of these things. Unless you have a very good and quick way to call it down because once that heats up to much, thats it, things lost.

I can't see how it would really heat up more than any other computer.
The components are not super high spec, so they would not generate any more heat than they are designed to take.

I'd say no on using one for a server - they are not designed to be on 24/7, plus they are not really designed for CPU-intensive tasks - they are not really designed for fast components, either.

I have worked on then and they seem to crammed and are to hot for my liking. they are very hard to work with because it is so tight. I just don't really like them. They are almost worse than a laptop but they are cheaper than some of them. Or if they make it run one with one of the mobile chips in it and it might not be to bad.
