Default Trouble finding a distro

I have a new computer that i want to play with until I sell it and I want to run it as a server but I can't find a distro to use with it. I tried FC4 FC5 Cent OS 4.4 and I found out that it needs the kernel to be atleast 2.6.16 but I don't know which is the most stable or what will run on it since FC5 did not.

It has an Nvidia 570 chipset with the AM2 Socket.

Edit: Found out there is not a solution at this time

Thanks,
Brian

If you feel comfortable with Linux, then try Debian Etch. It is the stable release of the distro and is perfect for servers. It comes with the 2.6.18 kernel by default, so no fooling with compiling your own kernel (unless you want to).

If you are not comfortable with Linux (nned visual aids or simple hardware probing tools) then Ubuntu would be the choice for you! Ubuntu is Debian based, so it has a rock solid foundation to begin with, but with Ubuntu's probing tools and a lot of other neat tools it is super easy to setup a full server for even the newest of n00bs to he Linux world!

Good advice from Billy.

Ubuntu for those new to Linux - it is also an excellent distro for those with a bit more experience but want a quick to configure usable Desktop.

Solid as a server, Ubuntu also has an excellent and helpful community to help you through any issues.

Be sure to check out http://www.ubuntuguide.org - it is a time saver and good learning tool.
